Why
Alive has been dancing in festivals and shows throughout Massachusetts and beyond since its conception in 2014. The thought of doing our own show had always been in the back of our minds. A bridge in a Matt Nathanson song described in a new way why Alive dances: “We’re more than what scares us/We’re final and fearless/We dance when the ice gets thin.” Suddenly, all of our work seemed to fit under one heading and the thought of actually putting on a show seemed possible!
We Dance When Ice Gets Thin puts together all of Alive’s work that helps us express when and why we dance: we dance to feel connected, safe, and alive. We dance for well-being. We dance when the ice gets thin. Dance helps us to work through those moments where it feels like the ice will not support us. We rely on each other and on dance to be that support instead. Dance is our form of release, and we hope to help others find a release as well.
